Choosing your brow colour
A good brow colour starts with the hair you have and the definition you want. Look at depth first, then tone. Leave the photograph as a reference, rather than a promise of how a colour will look on you.

Choose the amount of definition
For a softer result, begin close to your natural brow hair. For more definition, choose more contrast deliberately. If your hair is coloured, consider both the new colour and the hair in your brows.
In her interview with The Zoe Report, brow artist Anastasia Soare suggests going roughly one shade lighter than very dark hair, or one shade deeper than very light hair. Treat that as a starting point, then adjust for the look you like.
Look at tone as well as depth
Makeup artists Nikki La Rose and Judi Gabbay discuss these starting points with Rose Inc:
- Dark hair: a slightly lighter colour can soften the result. For brunette hair, caramel or taupe may be worth comparing.
- Blonde hair: a slightly deeper colour helps brows show; ash tones are one place to start.
- Red hair: soft taupe or warm brown can look more natural than an explicitly red brow product.
La Rose gives the hair's undertone more weight than the skin's when choosing brow colour. A red-leaning brown can stand out against ash hair. These are preferences, not rules: a bold contrast can be exactly what you want.
Brow Fixx, in six versions
Brow Fixx by NOC is a fast-drying gel-mousse for colour, shape and hold. Each version is $28. “50 Shades” is one version name.
The images below are digitally styled from each version's supplier photograph. Open the original photo for reference. Neither is an on-brow swatch; the supplier has not provided written undertone descriptions or a tested hair-colour matching chart.

The names and jar photos alone cannot reliably tell you which version will match blonde, red, grey or white hair. If you need a precise light or cool shade, look for an on-brow swatch or a written colour description before choosing. “All in One” is a supplier name, not a universal-match claim.
Check one brow in daylight
- Brush through clean, dry brows near a window.
- Use a small amount on one brow, leaving the other bare to compare.
- Follow the product's directions between coats. Step back before adding more.
- Judge the tone as well as the depth. If it looks too strong, try less product; if the tone still looks wrong, reconsider the colour.
For Brow Fixx, the supplier describes a flocked applicator and a few seconds between coats. A clean spoolie can help soften the result; the Brow Duo Brush is an optional tool.
